Kidney Stones Much?

On Tuesday the 10th, Mike called me about 1 in the afternoon and said he was in pain & it felt like he had Kidney Stones again. He was at work and was going to try to work through the pain. At about 3:30 he called me again & said he was in so much pain he was going to go to the ER at St. Marks. They did some blood work and stuff, and sure enough he had Kidney Stones. They released him, gave him some meds and sent him on his way. When he got home that night he was feeling so much better, he got up Wednesday and went to work because he was feeling good.

On Wednesday he was at work and called me at 2 saying he was in pain again. At about 2:30 he said he couldn't work anymore he needed to go home and see if he could pass the Kidney Stone. He was in pain all evening long. That night, we got him a Priesthood Blessing and went to bed hoping the next day would be better.

Thursday early morning at 3:30, Mike came in and told me he was in so much pain that he was going to drive himself to the ER. I jumped right up out of bed, got the boys ready and we were off the the American Fork ER. They got him all hooked up with meds. did a CT and found a 7mm Kidney Stone right in the middle of his Kidney. They were guessing it was stuck, which is why he was in so much pain and referred us to a Urologist. The stone would have to be broken up if he wanted to pass it. Thursday afternoon we met with the Urologist who did an x-ray to see if they could see the Kidney Stone with their x-ray machine & they could, so they gave Mike the option of Lithotripsy (breaking up the Kidney Stone) or going directly in and removing it. Mike opted for Lithotripsy. We got it scheduled for Friday the 13th... We got Mike another Priesthood Blessing Thursday night as well.

We needed to be at the hospital at 7:45 on Friday but literally just as we left the house they called & said they were pushed back & not to be there until 8:45. So we drove around and hung out and made it to the hospital at about 8:30ish. Got Mike all checked in, he was prepped, had another x-ray. The Dr. doing the surgery came in and talked to us, as well as the Anesthesiologist and Nurses. He was taken back at 10:45 and they call me at 11:26 saying he was done. We were in the hospital until about 3 trying to get Mike's pain under control and to hear from the Dr. on how the surgery went any everything.

By Monday the 16th Mike was feeling better and back to work. He passed most of the broken up Kidney Stones on Monday when he got home from work. He is now back to normal!

I am thankful for Priesthood Blessings, Insurance, Drs. who were not very nice, but at least know what they are doing. I am thankful for my job that let me take 2 days off on a whim to be with Mike and for Mike's work for being so understanding about this whole situation. Wow...It has been a Crazy 2012 so far!
